Diazepam, first marketed as Valium, is a medication that alters the function of the mind. Dr. Valencia Martinez gave Max Valium via an IV as part of the operation used to remove her microchip in Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports.

Before beginning the operation, Dr. Martinez started an IV in Max's "nonchip arm" and gave Max some Valium through it. After it took effect, Max said she felt calm and stuck her tongue out at Fang. While under the effects, she told Fang various thoughts of hers and that she loved him "sooo much", later resulting in him teasing her.

Max was offered Valium twice while on Captain Joshua Perry's submarine—first by Total, then by Perry himself.

The Valium given to Max caused her to become calm, groggy, and overwhelmed with emotion. This resulted in her not violently reacting to situations that normally would result in violence (such as when Dr. Martinez injected her with anesthetic) and saying things to Fang that she normally wouldn't say to him.
